WHAT ARE THERIANS? THE IDENTITY THAT’S BLOWING UP ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

The internet is on fire. And this time it’s not because of political drama, celebrity cancellations, or random memes. It’s because of people wearing fox masks, doing quadrobics, and even barking.

Yes, you read that right. Barking.

Welcome to the world of Therians, the identity that’s growing on social media and making everyone ask: “what the hell is going on?”

Spoiler: it’s deeper than it seems. And no, it’s not “a teenage fad.

SO WHAT IS A THERIAN?

Therian comes from “therianthrope,” a Greek word that means “human-animal.” They’re people who identify spiritually or psychologically with a non-human animal.

No, they don’t think they’re biologically a fox. They don’t believe they’ll wake up with a tail and furry ears. But they feel a deep, visceral, inexplicable connection with a specific animal. Like that feeling of “I should have been born a wolf” taken seriously.

Some feel this from childhood. Others discover it in adolescence or adulthood. And no, nobody “becomes” a Therian from watching TikTok. It’s usually the opposite: they saw TikTok and thought “damn, there are more people like this!

WHAT THEY DO AND WHY EVERYONE’S FREAKING OUT

This is where the internet goes into combustion.

  • Quadrobics: walking on all fours like the animal they identify with. Sound weird? Maybe. But think about it: ballet dancers walk on their toes, parkour athletes climb buildings, and nobody freaks out. Therians just walk differently.
  • Masks and accessories: foxes, wolves, crows. It’s not a Halloween costume, it’s an expression. Like when someone gets a piercing, tattoo, or specific haircut to feel more “themselves.”
  • Sounds and behaviors: some bark, howl, meow. Others act discreetly. It depends on the animal and the person. Nobody’s forcing you to bark too, relax.

This is where chaos enters: people don’t know how to deal with what they don’t understand.

People see it and think: “this is crazy,” “lack of parental attention,” “lost generation.” But what if we stopped for two seconds to reflect before judging?

WHY DO WE CARE SO MUCH?

This is the question nobody wants to ask but everyone should.

Why do we care so much about what others do with their own body, their own identity, their own life?

Is a Therian wearing a fox mask and walking on all fours in a park hurting anyone? No. Are they forcing you to do the same? Even less so.

So what’s the problem?

The reality is that society has always struggled with autonomy. With people who make choices outside the norm. With identities that deviate from the script.

And you know who else knows this feeling well? Adults who use platforms like Skokka.

Two conscious adults, making free choices about their bodies and their lives… and society freaking out the same way. “But why? But how? But that’s not normal!”

The pattern is always the same: if I don’t understand it, it must be wrong.

THE FREEDOM THAT BOTHERS

Look, we’re not going to pretend we understand 100% of the Therian experience. We really don’t. And that’s okay.

But you know what we understand perfectly?

Respect.

If someone feels a deep connection with an animal and it doesn’t hurt anyone, who are we to judge? If someone expresses themselves differently and it doesn’t affect your life, what’s your problem?

Autonomy is this: the freedom to be who you are, the way you are, without needing approval from strangers on the internet.

Therians are being cancelled because they deviate from the norm. Sex workers are judged for the same reason. Users of adult platforms face identical stigma.

It all comes down to one thing: people who don’t accept that there are ways of living different from their own.

And the most ironic part? Those same people cancelling Therians probably have something in their own life they hide, that they don’t tell their family, that they do away from others’ eyes. Everyone does.

The difference is that some choose to live authentically. Others choose to judge from afar.

SO NOW WHAT DO WE DO WITH THIS?

Simple: respect.

You don’t need to understand. You don’t need to agree. You don’t need to become a Therian or do anything outside your comfort zone. But you can  and should respect choices that aren’t yours.

Therian wants to walk on all fours in the park? Let them. Adults want to use a dating app without being judged? Let them. Person wants to dress, act, live the way that feels true to them? Let them.

Life is already too short for you to waste energy policing how others live theirs.

SKOKKA: WHERE FREEDOM ISN’T JUST A HASHTAG

We’re not going to show up only when it’s trendy to talk about respect. We talk about this every day.

Because freedom of choice isn’t a campaign slogan. It’s a daily commitment.

Therians, sex workers, users of adult platforms, people who simply live outside the norm: everyone deserves respect. Not because “it’s nice to be inclusive,” but because autonomy is a basic human right.

So next time you see something you don’t understand, take a deep breath and ask:

“Is this hurting anyone?”

If the answer is no, go on with your life and let others go on with theirs.

And if the answer is still no but you’re still bothered… then the problem isn’t the Therian. It’s you.

Therians aren’t a fad. They’re people.
And people deserve respect.
Not because you agree. Because it’s the bare minimum.

Skokka:  for those who live for real, not for appearances.
