March 3rd marks International Sex Workers’ Rights Day, dedicated to recognising the rights, dignity, and voices of sex workers everywhere. Established in 2001 when thousands of sex workers gathered in India to demand their rights, this day has since become a global moment of advocacy and solidarity.
In 2025, the theme for this important occasion is “Access to Justice” – a call to ensure that sex workers receive fair treatment under the law, have protection from violence and discrimination, and can access legal and social support without fear of stigma or retribution. Justice is a fundamental right for all, and this year’s theme highlights the urgent need to dismantle the legal and institutional barriers that prevent sex workers from seeking safety and equality.
The Struggle for Justice and Recognition
Despite the increasing awareness and advocacy for sex workers’ rights, the reality for many remains difficult. Across the world, sex work is often criminalised or exists in a legal gray area, making it hard for individuals to report crimes, access healthcare, or challenge exploitative conditions. Fear of legal consequences, social stigma, and police harassment often force sex workers to remain silent about abuse, leaving them vulnerable to violence and exploitation.
The theme of “Access to Justice” highlights the need for legal reforms, proper law enforcement training, and greater public awareness to ensure that sex workers are treated fairly. Everyone deserves protection and support, it should not be conditional on someone’s profession.
How Skokka Supports the Sex Work Community
At Skokka, we believe in creating a safe, respectful, and empowering space for sex workers. We see our platform as a community that values security, education, and advocacy. One of our key initiatives that supports International Sex Workers’ Rights Day is Secure Skokka, our affiliate site that is dedicated to providing sex workers with vital information about safety, scam prevention, and best practices for navigating their work with confidence. By offering resources and guidance, we aim to empower individuals to make informed decisions and stay protected.
Security and discretion are at the core of everything we do. Our platform prioritises privacy, ensuring that all interactions are safe and respectful. In an industry where digital safety is crucial, we work continuously to improve the security of our services, giving sex workers the peace of mind they deserve.
Beyond digital safety, Skokka actively supports awareness campaigns, promotes conversations around legal rights, and advocates for fair treatment of sex workers worldwide. By using our platform to amplify these important messages, we hope to contribute to a society that sees sex work as a legitimate career that deserves respect and protection.
Why International Sex Workers’ Rights Day Matters
On International Sex Workers’ Rights Day, it’s imperative that we acknowledge the struggles sex workers face, acknowledge their struggles, amplify their voices and take action towards real change! We believe it’s time to reflect on the laws and social attitudes that affect sex workers and to push for a world where their rights are fully upheld.
By standing in solidarity, sharing knowledge, and challenging outdated laws and biases, we all take meaningful steps toward a more just and inclusive society. At Skokka, we are committed to ensuring that sex workers feel safe, valued, and heard, not just on March 3rd, but every day.
Let’s continue the conversation, push for progress, and work towards a future where access to justice is truly available to all.
